Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the Dot NAME universal top-level extension is the sole TLD intended for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are popular by. Initially, just 3rd-level registrations were allowed, so if you wanted to register john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Existing third-level domain names remained working.
